Lindsay and Austin brought about 50 of their closest people to one of the most beautiful private villas on the island, and every single detail was intentional, warm, and visually stunning. I had the privilege of working this wedding as second photographer alongside my friend and talented photographer Blaine Alan. Together with the incredible team at Isla Mujeres Weddings and Dejavu Video, we documented a day that was equal parts elegant and real.

If you have never heard of Evolve Isla, also known as Villa Evolve, here is what you need to know. It is a private oceanfront luxury villa on Isla Mujeres with minimalist Caribbean architecture, clean white lines, and ocean views from almost every angle. Unlike a large resort, Villa Evolve gives you the entire property for your wedding. No other guests. No shared spaces. Just you, your people, and the Caribbean Sea.
For couples planning an intimate destination wedding with 30 to 60 guests, this venue is hard to beat. The architecture alone gives you an editorial backdrop without needing any extra decor. White walls, open terraces, natural light everywhere. As a photographer, it is one of those spaces where the venue does half the work for you.

Getting Ready

One of the best things about a villa wedding is that everything happens in one place. Lindsay and Austin each got ready in separate areas of the house, surrounded by their closest friends and family. There is no rushing to a shuttle, no coordinating between hotel rooms. Everyone is already where they need to be.
The natural light inside Villa Evolve is beautiful in the morning. Soft, warm, and consistent. It makes getting ready portraits feel effortless. Lindsay looked absolutely stunning, and Austin was relaxed and happy. You could feel the excitement building through the whole house.
And then there was Charlie.
Charlie the Poodle Stole the Show during First Look at Evolve Isla
Every wedding has a moment that makes the whole room smile. At this villa evolve wedding in Isla Mujeres, that moment had four legs and a very photogenic face. Charlie, Lindsay and Austin’s poodle, was part of the day from start to finish. First look photos, family portraits, you name it. Charlie was there, posing against the villa’s white walls like a total professional.
Including your pet in your destination wedding takes a little extra planning, but when it works, it adds something no amount of decor can replace. Personality. Warmth. The feeling that this is really YOUR day, not a template. Charlie brought all of that and more.
When the Wind Changed the Plan at Villa Evolve
Here is something every couple planning a destination wedding needs to hear: the weather will do whatever it wants. And that is okay.
On Lindsay and Austin’s wedding day, the Caribbean breeze turned into serious wind. The original ceremony setup was outdoors facing the ocean, but the conditions made it impossible. Working closely with Laura Mogollon from Isla Mujeres Weddings, the team made the call to move the ceremony to the lateral garden of the villa.
And honestly? It turned out beautifully. The garden felt intimate and sheltered, surrounded by tropical greenery, with the sound of the ocean still in the background. The guests were comfortable. Lindsay and Austin were relaxed. And the photos from that garden ceremony are some of my favorites from the entire day.
This is why having an experienced wedding coordinator on an island matters. Laura has planned countless weddings in Isla Mujeres, and her ability to adapt in real time is what made this transition seamless. The couple barely noticed the change. That is the sign of a great team.
The Ceremony and Celebration at Villa Evolve
With the wind handled and the garden set, the ceremony was everything it should be. About 50 guests gathered in the sheltered garden of Villa Evolve while Lindsay and Austin exchanged vows surrounded by the people who matter most to them.
After the ceremony, the celebration continued right there at the villa. Dinner, first dance, all of it in the same property. No transportation, no transitions, no wasted time. Just one continuous flow from ceremony to celebration. That is the beauty of a villa wedding. Your whole day happens in one place, and every moment connects naturally to the next.
The first dance was one of those moments that felt genuinely joyful. Not choreographed, not stiff. Just two people happy to finally be married, dancing together while their friends and family watched with the biggest smiles.
