Cancun Wedding Photographer for Destination Weddings You’ll Actually Remember
If you’re looking for a Cancun wedding photographer who actually knows this coast, you’re in the right place. I’m Tam, and I’ve spent 19 years photographing love stories across Cancun, the Riviera Maya, Isla Mujeres, Tulum, and Playa del Carmen. Over 800 weddings. Thousands of couples. And every single one reminded me why I chose this work.
Tam Rico Photo is built on one idea: your wedding photos should feel like your wedding felt. Not stiff. Not overly posed. Just real moments, real emotion, and the kind of light that only the Mexican Caribbean can give you.
What Makes Tam Rico Photo Different from Other Cancun Wedding Photographers
There are a lot of talented photographers working in Cancun. So why should you consider working with me? A few reasons that my past couples bring up again and again.
I know the locations inside and out. After nearly two decades shooting weddings in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, I know which beach gives you the best sunset in January vs. July. I know which resorts have the smoothest vendor coordination and which ones need a little extra planning. I know the hidden cenotes, the quiet corners of the Hotel Zone, and the beaches where you can have a moment to yourselves without a crowd in the background.
I’m a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. This isn’t a line on my website, it’s my life. I’m married to my wife Evamaris, and creating safe, joyful spaces for all couples is something I take personally. Whether you’re a same-sex couple looking for someone who truly gets it or you simply want a photographer who celebrates love without assumptions, Tam Rico Photo is that space. Love looks good on everyone.
I speak your language, literally and figuratively. I’ve worked with English-speaking couples from the US and Canada for almost 20 years. Communication is seamless. No miscommunications about your timeline, no confusion about what you need. Just clear, warm, easy conversation from the first email to gallery delivery.
I help with resort vendor fees. Most Cancun resorts charge an external vendor fee for outside photographers, typically $500 USD or more. On any wedding collection of 3 hours or more, I cover half of your resort photo vendor fee, up to a maximum of $500 USD.

Where I Photograph Weddings in Cancun and the Riviera Maya
I’m based in Cancun and work throughout the entire Mexican Caribbean. Here are the areas where most of my couples choose to celebrate.
Cancun Hotel Zone
The Hotel Zone is where many destination weddings happen, and for good reason. Resorts like Nizuc, Dreams, Secrets, and Hyatt Ziva offer all-inclusive packages with ceremony setups on the beach or in tropical garden spaces. The advantage of shooting here is the light. The Caribbean side of the coast gives you turquoise water and wide open skies that photograph beautifully from morning through sunset.
I’ve photographed weddings at most major resorts in the Hotel Zone, so I can tell you exactly what to expect from each one, from ceremony angles to the best time of day for portraits.
Riviera Maya
The Riviera Maya stretches south from Cancun through Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, and down to Tulum. This area offers a different energy. Think lush jungle, boutique venues, cenotes, and a more intimate atmosphere. Resorts like Rosewood Mayakoba, Banyan Tree, and El Dorado are popular with couples who want something a little more private.
For couples booking Tam Rico Photo for a Riviera Maya wedding, the only thing that changes is the drive. My approach, my style, and my commitment to your experience stays exactly the same.
Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres is my favorite place on earth, so I might be biased. But there’s something about this small island that strips everything back to what matters. The light is stunning, the vibe is relaxed, and the photos have a quality that’s hard to replicate anywhere else. If you’re considering an intimate wedding or elopement, Isla Mujeres is worth a serious look.
Tulum
Tulum brings jungle, cenotes, and bohemian elegance. Venues like Vesica Cenote and Casa Malca offer a completely different backdrop from a traditional resort wedding. Tulum weddings tend to be smaller, more creative, and full of personal touches. I love photographing there because the natural settings do so much of the work.
My Photography Style: Documentary and Emotional
My approach is documentary. That means I’m there to photograph what actually happens, not to direct a version of it. Your first look, the way your partner’s hands tremble during the vows, the moment your best friend completely loses it during the toast. Those are the photos that matter ten years from now.
I’ll guide you gently when needed, especially during portraits. But I won’t line up your wedding party in a row and make everyone do the same smile. My goal is photos that feel like your real day, with the warmth and energy and mess and beauty that comes with it.
What you get from Tam Rico Photo is a hand-curated gallery. I go through every image and select the strongest ones, so you’re not scrolling through hundreds of nearly identical shots. You get the moments that tell your story, edited with care and delivered in 4-6 weeks.

LGBTQ+ Weddings in Cancun
Same-sex marriage has been legal in Quintana Roo since 2012, and Cancun is one of the most welcoming destinations in Mexico for LGBTQ+ couples. But legal acceptance and personal understanding are two different things. When you book Tam Rico Photo, you’re working with someone who lives this. I’m part of the community. I don’t need to be told how to photograph two brides or two grooms. I don’t make assumptions about roles, names, or how your ceremony will flow.
I’ve documented LGBTQ+ weddings, elopements, vow renewals, and couples sessions across Cancun and the Riviera Maya. And I can honestly say that the trust my LGBTQ+ couples place in me is one of the things I’m most proud of in this work.
