There’s something about the light here, the way it hits the water at Isla Blanca, the warmth of a Playa Mujeres sunset, the quiet magic of Puerto Morelos, that makes every session feel cinematic without even trying. I know these places like the back of my hand, and that local knowledge makes a difference on your wedding day.
My favorite locations to shoot are Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Playa Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, and Playa del Carmen, places where I can show up knowing every hidden corner, every golden hour angle, every spot that photographs like a dream. I also travel to Los Cabos, a destination that holds a special place in my heart and where I feel just as confident and at home.

With nearly two decades of experience photographing weddings, engagements, and family sessions across Quintana Roo, I know the magic of golden hour at Playa del Carmen’s beaches, the hidden gems in Puerto Morelos, and the most breathtaking ceremony spots from Cancun to Isla Mujeres. Many times I work alongside my talented sister Citlalli Rico, bringing a collaborative, relaxed approach that feels more like hanging out with friends than a formal photo shoot. We’re bilingual, neurodivergent friendly, and deeply committed to inclusive photography that honors every couple’s unique journey.

Hola My name is Tamara, but my friends call me Tam. As a Wedding photographer in Cancun, I’m really passionate about creating lasting memories for families, couples in love, and those celebrating their wedding day. Being part of the LGBTQ community shapes how I see and capture the world, with an open heart and a deep appreciation for connection. I’m a highly empathetic person, and for me, photography is about more than just taking pictures; it’s about sharing and preserving the beautiful emotions and authentic moments we create together.
Things You Might Be Wondering
Are you actually LGBTQ-friendly, or is that just something photographers say?
It’s personal for me. I’m a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. And I’ve spent years creating a practice that centers safety, joy, and authenticity for queer and same sex couples. When I say this is a safe space, I mean it in every sense: in the way I communicate, the way I show up on your wedding day, and the way I see you through my lens. You won’t have to explain yourselves or manage my comfort. You just get to be in love.
What’s your photography style?
I’d describe it as photojournalistic with a lot of heart. I’m not the photographer who’s going to line you up and bark directions all day, I’d much rather capture the real moments: the nervous laugh before the ceremony, the way you look at each other when you think no one’s watching, the spontaneous dance that wasn’t on the timeline. That said, I’m always nearby. Think of me as your most reliable friend at the wedding, calm, present, and ready to help fluff a dress, hold a bouquet, or just remind you to breathe.
What’s it like working with you on the day?
My goal is that you forget I’m there, in the best possible way. I work quietly, I read the room, and I move through your day without disrupting the flow of it. At the same time, I’m incredibly present. If something needs to be fixed, if someone needs a nudge to get to the altar on time, if you need a moment to breathe, I’m there. Photojournalism is my foundation, but caring for my clients is my practice.
Do you work alone?
For most sessions, yes, it’s just me, and I love the intimacy that creates. For larger weddings or when the day calls for it, I work alongside a trusted team of second photographers, videographers, and coordinators. We always make sure your day is covered with the same heart and attention to detail, no matter the size of the team.
When should we book?
The sweet spot is somewhere between 6 months and 2 years before your date, especially for destination weddings, when venues and vendors fill up fast. That said, if your date is sooner, always reach out. I’ll always tell you honestly whether I can make it work.
Do you travel for weddings?
Yes! My home base is Cancun, and I work throughout the Riviera Maya, Isla Mujeres, Playa Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, and Playa del Carmen are places I know and love deeply. I also travel to Los Cabos. If you’re not sure whether your location works, just ask. I’m always happy to talk it through.
