Carrie & Robbie – An Intimate Sunset Wedding at Hotel Nizuc Cancun
Some weddings stay with you long after you pack up your camera. Carrie and Robbie’s October wedding at Hotel Nizuc in Cancun, Mexico is one of them — intimate, luminous, and absolutely charged with love.
The Getting Ready: A Morning of Pure Elegance
Before a bride ever puts on her dress, there is a whole world happening in that hotel room. And Carrie’s getting ready was one of those mornings I will not forget.
She was radiant from the very first moment, the kind of natural beauty that makes your job as a photographer feel effortless. By her side were the two women who love her most: Robbie’s mother, whose quiet pride in her future daughter-in-law was visible in every glance, and Carrie’s younger cousin, who brought lightness and laughter to the room all morning long.
Meanwhile, the incredibly talented Claudia Photo, my second shooter for the day, was with Robbie capturing his own getting ready moments, bringing her signature warmth and artistry to every frame.
The First Look: Magic in the Hallways of Hotel Nizuc Before the ceremony
Carrie and Robbie shared their first look in the most unexpected and perfect setting — the hallways and lobby of Hotel Nizuc. The architecture of this hotel is unlike anything else in Cancun: dramatic archways, warm stone walls, and a light that filters through in a way that feels almost cinematic. As a photographer, I live for spaces like this. Every corner offered a frame, every corridor a moment. Watching them see each other for the first time. The sharp inhale, the slow smile, the way Robbie looked at her like she was the only person in the world, all of it happened surrounded by the quiet elegance of one of the most beautiful hotels in Cancun.
A Ceremony on the Pier at Golden Hour
Hotel Nizuc’s private pier is one of those locations that doesn’t need much decoration. The light does everything. On October 30th, 2021, as Carrie walked toward Robbie with the Caribbean sky turning every shade of pink and gold behind them, time slowed down in the best possible way.
With just under 30 of their closest family and friends gathered around them, the ceremony was everything a wedding should be — small enough to feel every emotion in the room, and beautiful enough to take your breath away.
One of the most tender moments of the evening came when Robbie’s father walked Carrie down the aisle. It was quiet, unrehearsed, and completely overwhelming. I had tears behind my lens.
Carrie wore a sleek, minimalist gown with a front slit and a long elegant veil, carrying a bouquet of white orchids. Robbie wore a light grey linen suit. Together, they looked like two people completely at ease in each other’s presence — and deeply, visibly in love.
Cocktails and Candlelight Under the Trees
After the ceremony, the celebration moved to Hotel Nizuc’s courtyard, where a magnificent old tree anchored the whole space. String lights wrapped around its branches cast the most magical warm glow over the evening — luxurious and natural all at once, just like this couple.
I stayed through the toast, watching guests laugh, wipe happy tears, and raise their glasses to two people who clearly inspire that kind of love in everyone around them.
The beautiful wedding film was captured by the incredibly talented team at Loverocks Wedding Video — if you are looking for a videographer who matches this level of elegance and emotion, look no further.
Hotel Nizuc: One of Cancun’s Most Stunning Wedding Venues
If you are planning a destination wedding in Cancun and considering Hotel Nizuc, I cannot recommend it enough. The pier at sunset is unlike anything else on the Riviera Maya — and the courtyard with its ancient tree lit by warm string lights is pure magic for an evening reception.
As a Cancun wedding photographer with nearly two decades of experience across Quintana Roo, I have worked at many of the region’s finest venues. Hotel Nizuc holds a very special place among them.
