YOUR ELOPEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER IN CANCUN

That’s what an elopement is. And honestly? It’s one of my favorite things to photograph. I’m Tam Rico, an elopement photographer in Cancun with 19 years of experience documenting love stories across the Mexican Caribbean. At Tam Rico Photo, I’ve watched couples completely transform the moment they realize no one else is there. No performing, no pretending. Just them, being fully themselves with their favorite person. Because of this, that kind of authenticity is rare, and it shows in every single photo.

WHAT MAKES AN ELOPEMENT DIFFERENT

An elopement isn’t a small wedding. It’s a completely different experience. When it’s just the two of you, something shifts. The pressure disappears. You’re not managing anyone else’s emotions or expectations. Instead of worrying about the seating chart or whether your aunt is having a good time, you’re simply there. With your person. In one of the most beautiful places on earth. Furthermore, I’ve photographed elopements in cenotes, on private beaches, and in boutique hotels overlooking the Caribbean. Every single time, what strikes me most is the same thing: the intimacy. When a couple doesn’t have an audience, they stop performing and start feeling. As a result, those are the moments that make the most extraordinary photos.

Best Locations for Your Elopement in Cancun and the Riviera Maya

In fact, location matters just as much as the moment itself. For an elopement, I look for places that feel private, beautiful, and true to who you are as a couple. Here are my favorites.

La Cueva del Tapir

This cenote is one of the most magical places I know in the Riviera Maya. Located on the Ruta de los Cenotes in Puerto Morelos, it offers crystal clear water, ancient stone, and light filtering through the jungle canopy above. In fact, it feels like the world forgot this place exists, and that’s exactly what makes it perfect for an elopement. Beyond that, cenotes carry something sacred about them. Standing in that water, surrounded by that silence, couples feel it too.

Villa Rolandi, Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres is my favorite place in the world, and Villa Rolandi is one of its most beautiful venues. A private boutique hotel with direct access to calm turquoise water, stunning sunset views, and an intimacy that larger resorts simply can’t replicate. Additionally, getting to Isla Mujeres requires a 20-minute ferry from Cancun, and that short journey makes it feel even more intentional. You chose to come here. You chose each other. As a result, that energy carries through every frame.

Our Habitas, Tulum

For example, when Rosie and Sam came to me from the UK, they wanted something that felt like them. Bohemian, intimate, surrounded by nature. As it turned out, Our Habitas in Tulum was exactly that. I remember the quiet of that morning. Just the two of them, the jungle around them, and the feeling that the whole day belonged only to them.

Private Beach Venues in the Riviera Maya

Public beaches in Cancun can get crowded, especially during high season. However, for elopements, I always recommend private beach access through a boutique hotel or exclusive venue. After all, you deserve a beach that feels like yours that day. Most importantly, I’ll help you find the right spot based on your dates, your style, and where you’re staying.

HOW YOUR ELOPEMENT SESSION WORKS

I. We Plan Together. You tell me your vision. Then I bring 19 years of knowing these locations, the light, the logistics. Together we choose a spot that feels right for both of you and build a timeline around the best light of the day. II. Just the Three of Us. On the day, it’s you, your partner, and me. No coordinator directing every move, no crowd watching. As a result, I stay close enough to document everything and far enough that you forget I’m there.

III. The Real Moments. This is where the magic happens. When it’s just the two of you, you stop thinking about the camera. You hold each other differently. You laugh without checking if anyone saw. Ultimately, those are the photos that will matter in twenty years. IV. Your Gallery. Within a few weeks, you receive a full edited gallery of your day. Every real moment, every quiet glance, every burst of joy. Yours to keep forever.

Why Choose Tam Rico Photo as Your Elopement Photographer in Cancun

01. I Know These Places As an elopement photographer in Cancun for 19 years, I know where the light falls at 6am. Over that time, I’ve learned which cenotes feel sacred and which feel touristy. I also know the ferry schedule to Isla Mujeres and how to time your session around the best water color. This knowledge is yours when you book with Tam Rico Photo.

02. I Photograph Real, Not Posed No stiff poses. No forcing a moment that isn’t there. Instead, my approach is documentary. I watch, I wait, and I photograph what’s actually happening between the two of you. Ultimately, that’s where the truth lives.

03. I’m Part of the LGBTQ+ Community Every couple is welcome at Tam Rico Photo, exactly as they are. I’m a proud LGBTQ+ community member, and that shapes how I see love and how I photograph it. Furthermore, you will never have to explain your relationship to me or wonder if you’re in a safe space. You are.

04. 19 Years, 800+ Weddings Experience means I stay calm when the weather changes, when the light isn’t perfect, or when something doesn’t go as planned. After all, I’ve seen it all. In other words, my job is to make sure your day feels seamless no matter what.

Elopement Photographer in Cancun: FAQ

What exactly is an elopement?

An elopement is a ceremony or celebration with just the two of you, no guests. It can be as simple as exchanging vows at sunrise on a private beach or as curated as a full day in a boutique venue. Essentially, the defining element is intimacy: just you, your partner, and your photographer.

How is an elopement different from a micro wedding?

A micro wedding includes a small guest list, typically under 20 people. In contrast, an elopement is only the couple. That difference changes everything about how the day feels and how it photographs.

Do you travel outside Cancun for elopements?

Yes. I photograph elopements throughout the Riviera Maya including Isla Mujeres, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and Puerto Morelos. However, travel fees may apply for locations more than 60 minutes from central Cancun.

What’s the best time of day for an elopement?

Golden hour, the last 60 minutes before sunset, gives you warm, cinematic light. Alternatively, sunrise is equally beautiful and offers maximum privacy on the beach. Either way, I’ll recommend the best time based on your chosen location.

Can we elope at a cenote?

Yes, and it’s one of my favorite settings. La Cueva del Tapir is a particularly special location. Additionally, I’ll help you coordinate access and logistics so you can focus entirely on each other.

Do you work with LGBTQ+ couples?

Always. Every couple, every love story. Because at Tam Rico Photo, love looks good on everyone.

How far in advance should we book?

I recommend reaching out at least 4 to 6 weeks before your date. However, for popular dates during high season, earlier is better.

READY TO ELOPE IN CANCUN?

You don’t need a hundred guests to have a meaningful wedding day. You just need the right person, the right place, and someone who knows how to document what that feels like. At Tam Rico Photo, that’s exactly what I do. See pricing and packages. So let’s talk about your elopement. I’d love to help you plan something that’s completely, entirely yours.
