Documentary Wedding Photography

A safe space for
every love story.

I’m Tam Rico, and I’ve been photographing weddings across the Riviera Maya for 19 years. From jungle cenotes to beachfront ceremonies, from boutique hotels in Playa del Carmen to barefoot elopements in Tulum, this stretch of the Mexican Caribbean is where I do my best work. Tam Rico Photo is based in Cancun, but the Riviera Maya is where some of my favorite love stories have unfolded.

My style is documentary. I don’t over-direct or stage moments. I read the room, move quietly, and let your day happen while I photograph every real laugh, every tear, every stolen glance. Over 800 weddings have taught me that the best images come when couples feel comfortable enough to forget I’m there.

Wedding Photographer Riviera Maya:
real moments, real emotions.

The Riviera Maya stretches over 100 miles along Mexico’s Caribbean coast, from Puerto Morelos in the north to Tulum in the south. It’s a completely different experience from the Cancun Hotel Zone. Here, you’ll find jungle venues tucked between ancient ceiba trees, sacred cenotes with crystal-clear water, bohemian beach clubs with barefoot vibes, and luxury resorts that feel like private estates. The variety is what makes this region so special for destination weddings.

As a Riviera Maya wedding photographer with 19 years of local experience, I know the light at every venue, the best times for golden hour at each beach, and the logistics that make or break a wedding day in this region. That kind of knowledge only comes from years of working here. Tam Rico Photo has documented over 800 weddings across these venues and is recognized by Fearless Photographers for documentary wedding photography. I can help you plan the timing, the locations, and the flow of your day so everything feels effortless.

My approach is photojournalistic: I work quietly, read the room, and let your day unfold naturally while capturing every real moment. No stiff poses, no endless direction. Just you, your people, and the beauty of the Riviera Maya as your backdrop. I also photograph weddings and couples in Isla Mujeres, Tulum, and throughout the Riviera Maya.

I am a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, and inclusive photography is not a marketing line for me. It is who I am. Every couple I photograph gets the same thing: a safe space, full presence, and images that reflect who they actually are. Whether you are planning a same-sex celebration, a multicultural ceremony, or a classic destination wedding, you are welcome here.

Real Wedding

Sara & Emily: an LGBTQ+ Love Story
in the Riviera Maya.

When Sara and Emily reached out looking for a Riviera Maya wedding photographer, they had one clear priority: to feel completely themselves. No performance. No stiff direction. Just their love, documented with honesty and warmth on one of the most important days of their lives.

Their wedding was full of laughter, tears, and unscripted joy. From the quiet intimacy of getting ready together to the wild celebration under the Caribbean sky, every frame tells a piece of their story. As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community myself, photographing queer weddings is not just something I do. It is who I am.

Why the Riviera Maya for your
destination wedding?

Playa del Carmen is the heart of the Riviera Maya, with venues like Jardin del Mar, Blue Venado Beach, the boutique hotels along Playacar, and charming spots throughout Fifth Avenue and beyond. Further south, Tulum offers a completely different energy: think Our Habitas, Vesica Cenote, and beachfront celebrations where the jungle meets the sea. And between them, you’ll find hidden gems like cenotes, private villas, and resorts such as El Dorado, Secrets, Zoetry, and the Rosewood Mayakoba.

The Riviera Maya is also easy to reach. Cancun International Airport is less than an hour from Playa del Carmen and about 90 minutes from Tulum. Your guests fly into one of the busiest airports in Latin America with direct flights from most major US and Canadian cities.

Whether your dream venue is a cenote near Tulum, a beachfront resort in Playa del Carmen, or a private villa along the coast, Tam Rico Photo knows the Riviera Maya like home. Let’s make your destination wedding unforgettable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions couples ask
about wedding photography in the Riviera Maya.

How much does a Riviera Maya wedding photographer cost?

Wedding photography in the Riviera Maya typically varies depending on coverage hours, the number of photographers, and what’s included in your collection. At Tam Rico Photo, I offer customizable collections that include full-day coverage, a second shooter, and a complete edited gallery. Every couple is different, so I always recommend getting in touch to discuss your specific needs. You can also visit my pricing page for an overview of what’s included.

Are you an LGBTQ+ friendly wedding photographer?

More than friendly. I’m a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, and inclusive photography isn’t a marketing line for me. It’s who I am. Every couple who works with Tam Rico Photo gets the same thing: a safe space, full presence, and images that reflect who they truly are. Love looks good on everyone.

Do you travel to other locations in the Riviera Maya?

Yes. While I am based in Cancun, I regularly photograph weddings throughout the entire Riviera Maya. Popular locations include Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Blanca. I also work at cenotes and private villas across Quintana Roo. If your dream location is somewhere in the Mexican Caribbean, I can be there.

What is your photography style?

My approach is documentary and photojournalistic. I focus on real moments, genuine emotions, and the natural flow of your day. I do not over-direct or stage scenes. My goal is to capture your wedding as it truly was: honest, emotional, and full of life. If you value authentic storytelling over posed portraits, we are a great match.

How far in advance should I book my Riviera Maya wedding photographer?

I recommend reaching out 8 to 12 months before your wedding date, especially if you’re planning during peak season (November through April). The Riviera Maya is one of the most popular destination wedding regions in Mexico, so venues and photographers book up fast. That said, I always do my best to accommodate last-minute requests. The best way to check availability is to send me a message with your date and venue.
